Help Haiti Earthquake Victims

On January 12, a series of earthquakes measuring 6.5 to 7.3 on the Richter scale devastated Haiti. Time is running out to get the Haitian people the clean water, medical personal and supplies that can help to save thousands of lives. Mercy Corps is a non-profit organization engaged in humanitarian aid and development activities. Since 1979, Mercy Corps has provided more than US$1.95 billion in assistance to people in 107 nations.

Mercy Corps will focus first on the immediate humanitarian needs on the ground — for water, food, temporary shelter supplies and much more. As the most basic needs are met, Mercy Corps’ response team will transition from relief to long-term rebuilding and recovery efforts.

Medical Teams International (MTI) is a non-profit humanitarian aid and global health organization. MTI has shipped $1.3 billion in medical aid since 1986, provided care to 4.5 million people in 53 nations in 2008 and sent more than 2,600 volunteers serving annually in its various programs all over the world.

As soon as the MTI team is on the ground in Haiti, they will start treating the most needy patients for injuries and illnesses such as diarrhea and pneumonia. Those with the most severe injuries will be transferred to a hospital.
